I am having trouble with todays (24 Aug)

5a (Clue optimistic 4)and 2d (Clue Slimy mud)crossing at their 3rd letters.

I think 5a should be 'ROSY' and 2d should be 'OOZY' but s and z clash.

I am defeated. Help!

It may be OOZE and not oozy

The two words cross at their 3rd letter, so my problem is ROZY/ROSY or OOZE/OOSY

Still baffled.

Sorry, unless it's an American compiler, I don't like either alternative.

Found a reference to Oosy mud in Samuel Johnson's writing so it may be an archaic spelling of Oozy
