Yes, I agree - some very obscure answers. I got ALMS for 26d and TROLL for 28ac (one of the definitions for troll is a song)

Maybe a different compiler today.. I thought TROLL maybe but wasn't sure.. I got JESTFUL for 21a but could not work out why for the life of me

I get Im Shy obviously but why imshy - cant find any ref to that anywhere!
JESTFUL is I think is JEST (kid) and the first letters of "following university lecturer" a bit tentative though!

Imshy is (or was) a word quite common to the armed forces serving in the MIddle East and was used often to the street pedlars and beggars in order to try and get them to leave one alone.
