Old gal. six days after starting the Crossword I am still stuck. Amongst others 14D has been and is a problem for me.

More importantly, Old gal, I am remembering that today 15th is an important one for you with a visit to hospital and even said a wee prayer for you.

Also stuck on 6D`cosmetics agent` thing
16D `slippery and misleading` thing
21A Rodent thing.

I may try Quick Solve or give up and start anew tomorrow.

Hope you are feeling better Butterfly and Pipesmoker and anyone else who has been or is poorly

Hi, Mondrian,

Many thanks for your good wishes. Back in SGH again on Wednesday for a few days, then I enjoy a few weeks of comparatively strong limbs and good balance before the stuff wears off, and I have to go in again. Still, in the great scheme of things, I am blessed.

Right, to work. 6 Down. First part means wonderful, second part ding dong ???? calling, only read it backward.

16 across what do you do when you are trimming your roses?

21 across. Think of a-ailment associated with drinking too much port-i.

13 down. What you would do if something needs held up to prevent it falling, followed by what you go through to get into your garden.

Hope these help, and don't simply add to your confusion.

Best wishes.

Thank you, jazzgirl. That was a nice comment. My head swells in inverse proportion to my bank balance. (I had to lie down last week, after spending some money a deed for which I am not widely noted).

Sorry, Mondrian. I gave a hint for 15 across, which you didn't ask for. 16 Do you remember the Scarlet Pimpernel? 'They seek him in heaven. They seek him in hell. That damned ??????? Pimpernel' (Marius Goring, somewhere in the 1950s).

Apologies for the confusion.

Thanks everyone for the help - have filled a few spaces in. Mondrian - 14d is not what you would want to be if you crunched your car!!!!
Hospital went oK - have date for operation on 8 Feb which will be followed by more chemo (groan groan!!!). However, on holiday week before op so looking forward to paddling on Longsands, a day at a Spa, trips to Seahouses and Farnes etc. Love you all so much - you are my props!
