Here's a crossing clue:

(Supposing OPENEYED is right, that would give me an E and I also have a possible A):

I'd been toying with the idea of it beginning with C for construction but the only thing I came up with was CHALET and I couldn't make it work.

Answer is loathe - anagram of a hotel.
