Hi, is anyone else having problems with this today? I have almost all of the right-hand side but the left is almost empty with the exception of 26 and 17, which I am pretty sure of. I would be grateful if some of you clever-clogs giving me some HINTS!

Try giving us the clues, then, and any letters you might have.

There are plenty of people ready to give a hand but not everyone has the crossword in front of them!

1a. Barkeeper in parts is a rogue (10), I have B?????U?R?.
14d. Basics supplied by military officers on duty, we hear (5,5) I have ?????,??c??
Either of these would give useful first letters.

blackguard?

The first one doesnt sound as it is spelt . Think of a colour first.
The second may be a metallic form of PAYE

brass tacks?

Thank you, especially those of you that provided the hints requested. I had contemplated 'blackguard' and still do not fully follow the reasoning!

black = bar (as in refuse them membership for instance. keeper = guard.
