In lorry land tare weight = the empty lorry.
net weight = weight of load.
so net weight = gross weight minus tare weight.
if the load is a container that would be the net weight.

what do you say Thea.

Hi Trevor Hi Terry as was
Yes Terrys explan is worth an alpha plus.
Sorry to b*g you trevor. The container could be a lorry or weighty handbag or something that holds the NATIONAL PRODUCT together
But Gross is everything on the scales and NET is the actual goods!!!!!!!

And by the way (in the ditch)
It should be DIALECTIC
(DIALECTRIC sounds like a meter under the stairs)

Hope every one has had a good day
And are you settled Pastille?

when the cops/highway people check a lorry for load they know the tare weight of any given vehicle. they weigh the whole thing which gives the gross weight. then deduct the tare which leaves the net weight (weight of load). a container lorry would have the weight of the container (inc contents) shown as rhe net load.

that must be what Thea was on about.

Hi Terryaswas
Sort of I wasnt thinking of container lorries (I see your point)
But rather Container=paper bag, cardboard box
So gross is everything
net is the goods
and container amount must be subtracted. Phew
Can we talk about the weather
OR The Riemann Hypothesis

All the best to one and all

finally got it with;
"Gross is everything on the scales and NET is the actual goods"
never really heard the word used like this although it makes perfect sense and i should have guessed it.
i ought to have my legs slapped, bad boy.(but that's another song).
