Hooray .... finished. Took me a while until I hit the theme, but got there in the end ! ;o)

Any hints re the theme?

Have tried games & gems, but can't make anything consistent.

Had strong possibles for 12A, 24A, 18D.
American terms, but was trying to connect with "gems".
