Does 20d start with W or V?
I can't work out the wordplay so am stuck.

Not overly certain but a WAHINE is a Maori wife. Just a suggestion.

And VAHINE is a Polynesian woman or wife - hence my question regarding the wordplay!

Then go with VAHINE as Chambers specifies 'Wife' for it and only 'Woman' for Wahine. Vain(e) also fits in with Worthless but like yourself I frequently cannot understand the logic.

Wordplay may be: worthless=vain. "e"=term, ie end or last letter, of "abuse"

Am left with one, 25 Across...

I can see 'seal', but don't see the connection with 'rag', I can see 'seam'and 'seat', but don't see the connection with anything. Would appreciate any views.

STAT = as in Photostat and then 's (short for IS) tat.

I had 10 down as RADIANT - anagram of DIANA and RT (right).

25 across could be STAR which is a rag but I don't get the rest of the clue.
