Was this a messy one or what? I am not the best xword solver by a long chalk but this one took me until breakfast time this morning! Were the clues a bit on the obscure side or have I gone brain dead, not that the two are mutually exclusive?

Some decidedly strange clues! Quite a few folk on here commented on that!
