@tonyw - the definition in my clue was 'Richard of York gave battle in vain', a mnemomic for the colours of the rainbow.

@peterm -- I thought I might just get away with MIC. You are hard but fair, quite rightly.

Bullfrog, you got me with MIC, i didn't question it and liked the clue.

MaryT - i think you may have the 1st two words of your mnemonic mixed up(if it's the order of the planets)
'my very excellent Mum just served us nine pints' is what i was given(altho Pluto isn't a planet anymore, i think it got barred for swearing).
