43d instead, not stained

Now I think it can't be stained or instead as I have crambo for 42a "present day word game in which one knocks out answer", and the third letter of crambo becomes the first letter of 43d "Sainted? corrupt as alternative". Am still trying to find out which answer is wrong in this area which is blocking this.

43 D I dont have stained,I have INSTEAD,for "alternative",it fits better with "dishonestly" for 48 A,etc.

MOMO In post 11 I said I had "instead" and not "stained" as a previous respondent had suggested but I had "crambo!" as a word game which didn't fit with "instead". PTS showed taking the a from crambo and substituting with a i hence crimbo then fitted with "instead", least I think that's what he meant. Severe case of brain ache coming on.
