Not having much luck today..... help appreciated!

15a Set up laser for a thorough scan.(7) (Second letter is E)
21a Rejoice about return of relative, though not so dear.(7) Sixth letter is E

Think the first is PERUSAL (=scan) (anagram)

Think the second is CHEAPER (=not so dear), but couldn\'t really work out why!

CHEAPER = CHEER (rejoice) around AP (return of PA)

Would never have thought of those, so thanks for your help, it's appreciated.
