16ac Screwed up as rubbish, in the middle I went — here! (5,3)

I have ?a?t? b?n - assume it's waste bin but can't see how the clue works.
Any thoughts appreciated - thanks.

Having some problems with last two clues on Guardian 25,298, namely 2d and 10a. I think 2d is a foodstuff starting 'lent...' ( a pulse or legume) because of pancakes, but that makes 10a have a limited choice (ho,ho), but does not make any sense to me. Any suggestions?

I thought that - pancakes/lent seem to fit, but that leaves very limited range of answers to 10a, none of which seem to make any sense to me.
