Last one, help please! 46d Mexican-American name taken for granted at first in US city. (7). c?i?a?o - I have put in Chicano. But it could be Chicago. My head's not working very well.

chicago has the G (1st letter of Granted)changed to N

Thanks for the confirmation. I was doubting myself. The lack of a comma meant it could be read either way. Name taken could have implied 'taken away' with the G substituted. Over-thinking!

well, I think Chicago.
Mex-Am name = chicano
n(name) replaced by g (granted at ist)
= chicago, us city.

further evidence.

A chicano is defined as someone who is american of mexican descent. So it chicano with n(name) taken, repaced by g.

N (instead of) G in Chicago.
i think the word 'in' swayed me.
