I THINK POSSESSION DOES NOT FIT.

Many thx everyone. I agree with Francis POSSESSION has 11 letters but there are only 10 in this word. If 24D = MEANS then last letter has to be N. Any other ideas?

yes of course it has only 10 letters but the "O" in the grid is in the wrong place.
I agree POSSESSION seems the more elegant solution.
