I set crossies just for pleasure. I wonder if some of you excellent regulars would like to try a few of my clues? Since they're new, no letters!

It’s been suggested that solutions are withheld till 5 pm to allow others to have a go.

1. Historic capital, down under, contributed advantages to all following capitals (5)
2. Effect of a bad blood count? (9)
3. Don't go away from scrambles or dog events. Wait on (5)
4. Order pitch by phone (5)
5. It’s one! Are we not drawn onward, to new era? (10)

1. DUCAT -- first letters of 'down under, contributed advantages to all'
3. SERVE 'or dog events' minus 'don't go'

5. PALINDROME!

only just seen Palindrome - very good.
i (think i) can see the construction for the last clue,if so, i always find these hard without any letters.
i'm assuming 'by phone' means sounds like?

nice one ixion,this was bugging me.

I got the phone meaning and tried it earlier today and all I could think of was THROW but I knew it wasn't right. I got SERVE also. And the one with the initial letters. The palindrome was a good one. I didn't get it.
