1st letter (L)impid (little devil slips into cover and gets clear.)(6)
5th Letter (E)we (either way you sound sheepish)(3)
7th Letter (S)teak (Meat and chips we hear)(5)
The 3rd letter I think is (R)est cure (Taken by those who are sick and tired of work? (4,4)

I just looked it up in Chambers, Mary. It's normally spelt with the e at the end, but you can make it largess. I must say I've never seen it without the e on the end.

Thanks AJT, haven't seen it spelt like that before either, one clue I am not 100% sure of is:-

Brotherhood? (4) I have put in COWL (as in monks hood) guess it is correct! had the O & L

nothing wrong with COWL ,quite a good clue I think.
by the way my old Chambers gives largess as the preferred spelling.

So does my latest tonyw - I can only repeat that I've not seen it used that way.
