Hi guys! We're having enourmous trouble with the last clue in our cryptic crossword.

The clue is "Crumple the French after orange on metal" 6 letters.
The first letter is "R" and the fourth is "E" and the additional hint is "Stir about"
Any light you could shed would be wonderful!

orange on metal usually rust, and le for french, not sure if right but can't think of anything else
