Hope I'm not being pedantic, but the clue to 1 down in Saturday Times crossword didn't ring true for me.
The clue read,
Mixed pairs do a race round the world (8).
The answer is obviously Diaspora, anagram of (pairs do a).
Diaspora is the dispersion of the Jews around the world, and now meaning Jews living outside Israel.
The clue suggests that the race is the Jews.
The thing is, I was taught at school that the Jews were not classed as a Race, but were classed as a People.
I'm not trying to sound arsey, I really would like someone in the know to enlighten me to the differences, and are the Jews a race or a people?

If you look elsewhere on the net you'll see that this is a very controversial question with strong arguments on all sides. Happy reading!

get over it....

I agree people is more correct than race - but - the clue surface works very well with race and...race and people are synonyms.
