Have just returned home, picked up paper and remembered this bugbear!
12a Black stuff out of the blue (3,4)
I have got * E * / C * L L
Could be JET CELL ??????
Any help would be much appreciated as it will annoy me intensely!!

might be jet coal. (thought to have been formed from water logged wood).

Sea coal seems more likely.
