1st is a down clue so 'for promotion' in this case means backwards.
2nd - hard to think of a clue - it is a tree.

the tree is not that common a name,but River is R(as you probably thought) so A??R.

For the tree clue, you're looking for a word which represents 'one' in a particular context.

i also think 'Foreign girl',could,maybe should just have said, girl.

It's very tempting to ask for an answer but it was so good of you to remember that I usually want clues that I'd feel like I'd done you a disservice! Is it a foreign girls' name or a foreign word for girl? What area of the world should my brain go to?
