Also I need some confirmation on these:-

13a. Food is better but no starter provided (4)

I have E_T_, which I assume is EATS
from: is better = beats less the starting letter B, eats being another word for food

24d. Time to get even with society? (5)

I have T_E_S.
I am thinking it is TEENS, which is derived from t = time, een = poetic for even, s = society

SARAH

SA = Salvation Army
RA = soldiers
H = heart of Micheal

I was thrown by Palin which of course refers to Sarah Palin!

EATS & TEENS look good to me for exactly the reasons that you gave.
