WIELDING?

Yes, thanks, Jazz! I think it must be "yielding" - the "bearing" part of the clue can mean "wielding", as in "wielding or bearing a sword", or "yielding", as in "bearing fruit". However, there is seemingly no dual meaning you can apply to the "submissive" part of the clue. Thanks again.

Yielding can mean someone who gives in or 'yields' to others so applies to both bits of clue I think.
