I don't have the answer but I've thought of:-
S(I'M + MO)N. I was thinking persimmon. BUT I cannot find any ref to SIMMON (apart from it being a piece of software). Does that open any door?

Chambers gives 'simmon as short for persimmon

Super Ixion! That's the answer then. What I'd call a 'proper cryptic clue'. Can be solved directly from the clue.
