SURF THE WEB or SURF THE NET?
Which is most common? People say both!

I think either would be acceptable, Sometimes there is an alternative answer to clues and if they are applicable, then I believe that either answer is accepted as OK. However, I would prefer the setter not to put us in this predicament of choice.

Dandelion, I quite agree with your statement re the setter.

I suppose the final decision of what would be acceptable would depend on the publication.

I am getting lots of responses re 'most common' phrase, and so far pretty much 50/50 for each of them!

Any more opinions gratefully received!

Hi Luckyeight.

Google search lists about 0.9 million pages containing the phrase "surf the net" and 2.4 million with "surf the web".

Not that it's definitive.
