clue: Pine tree,say,that is would be spruce!

Can only think of trimmed but why?

Pine trees are regularly pruned like lots of other plants. But the process is called trimming not pruning. The rest of the clue is a play on the word spruce.

Yes terry I know where you're thinking and I thought Trimmed for spruce and I'm sure the answer is right (I now have the I from irish island with walking festival, GK Clue 6 letters).But I don't like the clue,I was looking for something more cryptic.Thanks
