I don't think I know this word...
47d From the first, some hope to find their lives in Jewish village (6) _H_E_S

I'm looking for a hidden word in the clue (some), and I think the definition is a Jewish village, but that's about it. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

Aah. I see. I learn something again! Also, I had traverser for 56a, which I plumped for before I got 20d, andI had linked it to 'crossing over.'
