upswept - not self-searching but soul-searching

1a self searching

3d scrutineer
2d remains a mystery

2 down - I first put upswept - using the u from 1 across - soul searching.

Then put lascent using the l from self searching. Would be interested to hear other's views. Many thanks

soul searching works with upswept
lascent - a dictionary search doesn't seem to provide a definition ... !!?
