I believe there is a desert called Mesquites but I cant work out the wordplay for this...you 100% on your letters?

doctor in c/words are sometimes Mo or Dr, not sure if that helps.

15d does look like Mosquitos.

There is a central american tribe called Miskitos,have a guess what they are usually called these days.
