It's an old prize crossword and I'm stuck at the last couple.

DOWN CLUE: Two colleges appear in table (8)

I'm guessing one of them might be ETON. Still can't get it, though. Any ideas gratefully received.

Pembroke fits and is both a college and a table , but does not fully fit the brief.

I have POCHARD but does it fit the brief? I can't see all of it. RD = road Catch up = COP (poc reversed or up).

In that case, having verified POCHARD, here is my final clue to finish (crossing the two colleges one):

ACROSS CLUE:

Poet hard to decipher, for the most part(6).

A different type of "hard", no doubt.

Sorry Sammy, am not getting inspiration for that one yet.

I have CHARON stuck in my head. Trying to make it fit, I'm thinking Con = to decipher, possibly? HAR = hard, for the most part. The answer should be a poet. But CHARON not a poet that I know of.
It's past my bedtime and I am going to have to sleep on it. Night, Mamya and thanks for your late-night help and company.
