I have pencilled in an answer for this one but I am not sure it is right. Even if it is right I don't understand the wordplay which is never satisfactory. Help!

Hi - thanks for your prompt response. Rampant was the word I pencilled into my grid (as a correct guess) but I don't understand the wordplay. Could you please enlighten me? Many thanks in anticipation.

rampant is a heraldic term used in coats of arms..it is an old french word for UP
