Thought it might be "maiger" if that word exists !

trough is manger. M = motorway anger= rage

A fairly easy one this week from Neil Shepherd. However, there was one very bad clue:

13A Sailor is returning to desert (3)

IMHO, the clue construction implies that the answer is an alternative word for desert. Unfortunately not, the answer needed is a synonym for a sailor.

I think it more likely that to desert is to rat.
