Thanks to The Joker - yes I did manage to Google my way around the Moat Terrace area last night and I'm going to use it as the answer because of the anagram association - it wasn't an area of Edinburgh when I lived there many years ago but I'm beginning to think the quiz was composed by one of the boy scouts the charity supports. Many thanks.

Thanks ChrisG - well you learn something everyday! I could only think of Uphall just off the M8 west of Edinburgh. When you ask an Edinburgh student where they live they will say "in Halls" meaning student accommodation. Who knows - thanks for your efforts - roll on Sunday for the Times crossword if it gets thru - blizzard has restarted!

A divided martyr is single - This one is very cryptic, so here goes. Divided = cloven. Martyr = saint (abbr "st"). Single = one. All adds up to Clovenstone. I remember this was a place on the Edinburgh bus routes when I lived in the city. No idea where it is tho!
