7d The sole catlike creature in the house (11)

I think this is Plantagenet, but can't see why.

"Genet [cat]" is a catlike creature, "Planta" could be an anat. term for the sole (e.g. "plantar wart").

18a Unprofitable? This joint succeeded, for one. T - A - K - E - S

It must be 'thankless' and I can see the joint (ankle) and 'this' with the 'i' replaced by an 's', ('succeeded, for one'). What I cannot see is how the parsing places the joint inside the 'TH...SS'.

Any thoughts?

I think it means that you make TH (I) S , into TH (ANKLE S) S. So this with “ankle s for one”, ie replacing it

I finished this puzzle some time ago except for 5 down. I just can't make any sense of the clue. I'm clearly missing something!
