Theminstrel, I hate to say this (honest!), but I found this the easiest PE puzzle in a long, long time.

In that case could either of you please confirm the parsing of 3d "Treasury head gets sack for fiddle."

However sack=rifle seems a stretch as does TRIFLE = fiddle.
I get "sack" as in pillage a city and trifle as in to act frivously with but neither seem proper synonyms to me.

Unlock... sack and rifle are both defined in Chambers as 'pillage', so that seems fine to me.

Chambers gives one definition of (to) fiddle as '(to) trifle', so that one also looks OK.

I recall that my stepmother regarded Chambers as the "go-to" dictionary for crosswords and I think I may have to invest in a copy rather than searching online for synonyms and meanings. (Or relying on my own vocabulary.)

Unlock... thanks. I checked Chambers as it's the most widely used reference, but I expect the other 'big' dictionaries (Collins and the Oxford Dictionary of English) would have confirmed those definitions too.
