I see what you mean about "ourself"; it seems self-contradictory between singular and plural! Perhaps just a compiler error.

Tried many combinations have finished cross word and it is only thing that fits in but ourself seems grammatically incorrect .

The third letter of 9d is the first letter of 15a.

Does anybody feel that 4D is obscure? The clue is Australian marsupial (6) and the letters are ??M?A?
The obvious answer is WOMBAT but this clashes with 1A Carpenter's or mechanic's table (9). The only possible answer to 1A is WORKBENCH, which makes 4D NUMBAT, an animal so rare as to be nearly extinct.
