White = a 3 letter word
It clothes (covers) a SA footballer (very famous) missing his central letter

Definition is a person who 'knows'

Thanks Shooty. I got there after shaking off my " Pele" fixation. Showing my age, no doubt.

I thought it was a very clever and flawless clue (a refreshing change of late).

I also remember the great Pele.

Glad I could help.

i hate it when the setter refers to fooballers. i still have no idea, but fortunately I'm confident I have the right answer.

i'm way behind this week because i had an operation on my right hand, so typing slowly with my left. the painkillers have made me woosy and it is hard filling in the grid with my left hand. So i've still a few to do mainly in bottom south west corner. any help with 25ac,16d and17d would be gratefully received.
