Sort of, but I'd make a distinction. This was one of the easiest, I thought - what was Victoria Beckham called professionally?

I've got *o*h*(s)*. GoT a word that fits with the clue but not sure the s fits the down clue. I got her professional name but the rest of the clue can't parse

Just finished the shopping, finally. Chrise for HH think pencils. I also started with VH but took the unusual step(for me) of writing all the letters down.

My point exaclty, jafo. HH isn't a valid designation, and it goes up to 9H. See here

Chris, I think you protest a wee bit too much. HH is given as “very hard” in the text below the table on the web page you linked to. It’s also given in Chambers.

I suppose so, jack, but I still think that it's a poor clue when the V is, in fact, a better answer.

I've completed the crossword, but only have 25 entries with single-letter beginnings/ends: the G-word is missing. Can someone give me a hint, eg which quarter of the grid should it appear?

I don't see how I could just give a hint, judygs. Would you like me to tell you where the G is?
