badly stumped today
Hints on 4 down and 18 across would be very welcome. Off to the Met Opera now--so cannot thank a responder for at least five hours

18a is an anagram.

4d
First word ends in TH and second in L.

There was very little to enjoy today. Lots of &lits and some really weak definitions.

If I am right about 1d then it's a word misused in the original Star Wars trilogy?

2d could be classed as clever however it's really obscure, so I think unfair.

16d part of this just doesn't make sense to me. A three letter part is really obscure.

I cannot judge today's crossword comparatively, as I have never done this before...but I thought both 1d and 2d were easy enough to get from the parsings?

Well the definition for 1d along with the enveloped word are just off piste/colour for a standard cryptic crossword.

2d is better however it is one of several &lit clues that just made it more of a chore.

When you get 16d come back and let me know if you think it's weak.

I think 4d is just awful. I don't even fully understand the end. It's so long winded. Again &litish.

Not enjoying this at all and have ground to a halt in the NW corner.
