24d clue splits 4 words, 2 words, plus 7th word is definition

23 corrected and 24 filled in, but not parsed. I perhaps have the same answer as you for 10 as while it more or less fits the clue it seems to be a form of argument rather than a 1A. Oh well. It will do. Thank you!

Well I have this completed and all explained including all the instructions etc except I cannot fully parse 1d. Assuming I have entered the correct itchy condition (and there really is only one possible fit to my crossers P-U-I-O isn't there? ) then I am left with a reversal of IR for 'I take up' which I just cannot explain. How does IR mean 'I take' ?

Chambers has an entry for R as an abbreviation for "Recipe (Latin, take"

The R in 1D comes from "Recipe" - doctor's prescriptions used to start with an R.

Well thank you Simond9x and david w. I think I knew that from some dim and distant crossword past but long forgotten. Doesn't help when you didn't do Latin at school and thereby my sum total of Latin knowledge comes from doing the Guardian crossword.
