I'm fine with 52D, but shouldn't 1A be "two metres out" rather than miles?

I'm struggling to parse 1ac. I can see "quarterback" but that's as far as it goes.

This was discussed elsewhere yesterday - the 'miles' must be a typo for 'metres' or the clue doesn't work at all.

Unless someone else knows better.

I have an answer for 1ac but don't know the french name for quarterback, so decided it is a shade.
I've got nearly all of the right hand side apart from 10d 31 days in France and Spain for the dance. I have ?A?I?E.
Some help with the right hand side would be welcome. How about a hint for 33ac Old Gore has to speak out to Clinton - here? (4, 6) I only have ????,???I??

Think anagram of tool for speaking, together with a Gore, and where they might be likely to meet.

not an anagram - 1st letter comes from 'old'.

Letters are correct for 10D, letter towards the end of the alphabet to be inserted separately....when I looked at this at first I thought it might be moRRis, but of course every "mois" isn't 31 days long.

Hi both
I had to break off to do some dusting (long overdue) and it took a while for the penny to drop. I've got it now.
Many thanks
