ianwil - I was told off by jono on the Guardian prize thread yesterday for using ‘double duty’ inappropriately. I’m not sure how ‘sorrows’ is doing double duty in 9a, and am beginning to wonder whether I really understand what the term means!

justsolve@7. Exactly re:Pop. Not very Everyman-y also crossed my mind. I'm adding 13d to my dubious list too :)

I'm with JustSolve on this one. It seemed far too difficult for an Everyman, needing much more recourse to the thesaurus and this site's fill in the gaps thingy than usual. I still don't understand 1A - does the ellipsis signify anything, and in what way is the clue cryptic? The first homophone in 19A is just plain wrong. Never heard of 6A (apparently it's an American species ... just sayin'!) All in all, I suspect this is the work of a locum!

Agree 17a is a good clue now I've seen the explanation. Thanks barryc.

I thought this rather fun if a bit knotty in places. I think the first homophone in 19a works if you think of what some instruments do - as in the thermometer ‘recorded’ 20 degrees. I know it’s a push but it sort of works.

Hi all - can someone give a hint on the parsing of 1D. The answer is clear, but don’t get the connection. Thanks

Really struggled today. Still stuck on 25a, 26a and 22d. All hints gratefully received!

Hi Pippa,

25a - "add powder" as in baking and "remove powder" as in cleaning.
