Hi Rocky, I’m sure if you run through all the possible Marx’s you’ll get this. Curious that in 1d Picaroon tells us that the singer is from the US, but in the case of 23d not that the media personality is.

Yes, Jono should have got that. I'm a big fan. Not got the US singer and 1d yet. Finding the top half a lot harder than the bottom.

Indeed, for no other reason than to be contrarian, I started at the bottom of the down clues and worked backwards which may have helped.

Sticking my neck out, I’d say this is the possibly the best prize puzzle so far this year.

I think I would agree with you. Still struggling a bit up top but I like the contemporary feel that Picaroon incorporates.

I hesitate to disagree, but I didn't think this was one of Picaroon's best. It seemed unnecessarily wordy in places - 13d, for instance.

A couple I haven't fully parsed:
11a where is the detective?
25a what does it have to do with Brad Pitt?

18 was hilarious for a Brit, though!

Funny it was the shop bit of 11a I couldn't get for ages. A real pdm when I did. Never heard of 2d so I'll let myself off that one.

agree with jono @ 13 - P's anagram indicators - modified, funny, when drunk, fit so well into the surfaces, as do his modifiers - embraced, without clothing. I disagree with chrise even about 13 - after all it's the one thing one wants to know if away from the match ....
