Another cracker from Kcit, and always nice to dig out an old A-level book!

A fun puzzle. It has prompted me to reread the work.

I am afraid I am totally flummoxed by the letters to be removed.....probably because I am unfamiliar with the work.

I have entered the anagrammed and therefore thematic answers in 16a and 30a.....have I done right ?

Any chance of a nudge towards the letter removals ?

Fred, it wasn't strictly necessary to get the removed letters. They spell out another two names,the same as/similar to the anagrammed entries and the Unclued one.

I have got the 2 anagrammed ones and the unclued entry as well as the quotation.

I thought I had to remove 18 letter before submitting.

Have I misunderstood (not an unusual occurrence )

I think some of the clues would have been easier to solve with the letters removed! I got some of them, but not all - like you, I finished without that.

Should I be submitting a grid with 18 blank lights ?

No...full grid.... letters are removed from the clues before solving
eg in 1d the extras are ASP...extras from 2d and 7d.....give 9 letters spelling out a name from the musical....similarly with 3 more down clues
16a 30a and the middle blank give 3 more...
