Strange clue with noted absence of reference in Chambers. 24d:Leisure time on hill? One rambles in gardens. Surely it is rector- but why? Any views appreciated.

I've finished the grid, but have queries with the parsing of two clues.

10d Treat cuttingly, earlier showing contempt? Ring off (4)
I have Snee, defined by the first clause (which Chambers confirms), but I can't get the rest of the wordplay. It looks like Sneer minus r, but can ring be r, or is something different going on?

28a Rue, similar to ground creepers (6)
I have Repent, but I don't understand the second part of the wordplay.

Obviously my solutions may be wrong in the first place, but any help would be much appreciated.

28a Chambers has 'repent' as 'lying on the ground and rooting', so fits with ground creepers.

I have the same query as you about 10d.

10d SNEERING ('showing contempt') - RING ('Ring off').

Nice one! Bit of a self-kicking required because I should have spotted the second def. of 'repent' at the top of the next column in Chambers, and that 'sneer' was the wrong part of speech for the clue. *sigh*
