CLUELESS 47

It’s Clueless time again, which this week falls to me to set.

The idea is simply to compile a cryptic clue to a given answer. The winner of the previous week’s competition sets the answer to be clued and judges the entries. There is a one-day time-frame. The judge’s decision is final (reasons may or may not be given at the judge’s discretion).

It is customary for the judge to donate a virtual prize to the winner.

To be fair to others, please do not make any comments on entries until after the winning entry has been declared.

Multiple entries may be submitted and new competitors are particularly welcome.

The CLUELESS 47 answer is: VALENTINES DAY (10,3)

Clues to be submitted before 16:30 GMT tomorrow (Wednesday 15th February). A judgement will be forthcoming shortly after that.

Good luck!

Love blossomed in the period after Virginia loaned Torquemada part of nest-egg (10,3)

I have tried to achieve a suitably romantic surface reading. Explanation below:

Love blossomed = as it will on this special romatic day (the definition)

in = link

the period = DAY

after = instruction that DAY goes after what follows

Virginia = VA

loaned = LENT

Torquemada = I

part of nest-egg = NES

How romantic!
