1, I would have thought "plagues"...... but again the number of letters required does not fit?

"does it fit in the grid"? Not a chance, it's not a crossword, it's a quiz for Higham Ferrers Town hall - closing date 17 December 2018. My copy only arrived yesterday. Pity the OP didn't have the decency to be honest.
