Getting nowhere with this one (well, 8 clues after 4 days), and the prospect of an origami endgame isn't all that enticing as my scissors are blunt. I must have the wrong end of several sticks, but among the many helpful hints on here, it seems that the instruction, which I've assumed to be 33 incorrect letters in clue order, ends with 'en masse', and yet 29d and 31d both have an 'e' as the errant letter. Can someone please nudge me back towards the right track before I bin it. Thanks.

Pka1. The errant letters give an instruction to collect further letters from some clues. This second instruction concludes “en masse”. Stick with it, even if you don’t bother with the origami. It’s a clever crossword. Give us a shout if you need any help to make some further headway

Thanks both - there's always more to these things than meets the eye, as I should have learned by now. Piffleworthy, apologies. I knew it was a 'u', replaced by an 'e'.. Somehow got lost in my general confusion.

Oh boy. Tried hard to go this alone and managed maybe 10 clues over 3 days. Took a few hints and am almost Grid complete now. I can see some of the words from the errant letters but I have a bit of a fog in the middle. Would it be too much to ask the word lengths for the first instruction of 33 letters? Pretty sure I have the first and last two but best be sure before I go mad.

6, 6, 2, 5, 8, 5 with a bit of punctuation along the way.

The word lengths are 6, 6, 2, 5 - 8, 5. The dash is the punctuation mark mentioned in the preamble.

I am glad that you helpful experts are still checking the forum. I have been on the point of giving up so many times but now I have a full grid and the message. I can't work out what to do next. I have seen some references in earlier posts but they havn't helped me yet. Where do I look for "en masse"? Do I follow the instruction literally? All I have is a string of 13 letters that make no sense.
