Thanks Tony - I'd got all the parsing bar the last letter and finally sussed that myself before revisiting here to ask if that was the punctuation mark one alluded to in the preamble - no need to ask now! Need to be very vigilant with these spaces I think ....

Gardening has obviously cleared the cobwebs of my brain and I'm making some progress now. I am, however completely stuck on 31d - any hint would be welcome, thanks.

Planks , the "e" in "die" is a misprint and will form part of the definition. Hope that's enough of a nudge.

I'm glad someone has got the hang of this! I'm still barely 2/3 of the way through the clues! I cannot say I am enjoying this whatsoever,

Hi Dylan, 1D is French. split 'reran', replace the second r by m.

Hi S_Pugh, I was interested to see that you were enjoying the services of Calmac the other week. I've nothing but good to say about them, on two occasions I've been able to phone ahead and have a ferry wait for me...

...as for the puzzle, once you're in you're in, because a lot of clues can be solved intuitively, though the parsing may take longer. So this phase (I've completed all but one in the top half) is quite enjoyable. But I think, as usual, I will forego the Blue Peter playschool.

Hi Meursault, nearly there now, just 2 to get and 1 to parse. As for Calmac they are normally great but they were utterly defeated by Storm Callum the other week (as was the Rest & Be Thankful). Still if you're going to have a huge detour it isn't so bad when the scenery is so majestic.

Indeed, it's always good to have time. The A83 is often bad after heavy rain.
