Finished crossword but, 2 days later, still trying to parse 11a : Fool playing about with glossy fabric (5). S*T*N Answer SATIN. Why?

Nit (fool) as (playing) about (reversed.)

Thanks for the mental relief, Scorpiojo! As = playing was not obvious to my limited reasoning even though I'm sitting opposite some old theatrical prints - Miss Vincent as Prince Aladdin, for example!
